2006 December 11 - 40 Year Reunion
Leo Rogovin, Henry Berkovic and me in Pellegrinis. Probably the first time in 40 years that all three of us have been together (and certainly the only time we have all been in Melbourne). Leo did a very brief (4 day) visit to attend family wedding and as he was not stopping in Sydney, Henry came down to Melbourne for the day on Monday.

2006 December 10 - Reunion with Leo Regev and Aviva Ziegler
Leo came on a flying visit to Melbourne for his niece’s wedding and we met up for a couple of hours. Aviva Ziegler was also in Melbourne and came by. The background to the photos reminded us of Betar camp, Anglesea or Kinglake West.

Visiting Australia in June 2006 were Rosette and Jack Mirjam together with their granddaughter Natalie. Apart from several private gatherings there were two larger groups - Aufgangs for lunch on 18th June and Appels on Saturday evening 24th June. Rosette and Jack left on 2nd July but Natalie stayed longer as her parents Bambi and Sussie and her brother Sagi are coming.

2005 June - John Goldlust's 60th
Hi Harry and Elaine,
I'm sending a few photos of my little soiree. I would have invited you but I had a suspicion you might not show so why waste an invitation. I'll send it now though - now that I'm sure you won't show up. Some of the photos are the same as on Aaron's cyberspace page but these are closer to original quality - ie actually viewable.
We are well and getting ready for 6 months in Europe as of July. Why don't you pop over and say hello - everyone else is. And bring Michael (Jackson) with you - he looks like he needs a bit of a rest poor boy - the things they're saying about him. [It's a long story - Ed.]
If I have any ideas about any new projects I'll wait until they go away and then let you know.
Aaron has passed on the MP3 of the Hancock's half hours - they are great. I plan to play them for my Spanish cousins who went to school in the UK - they'll love them. Thanks for that.
I'm sure you'll have a great time catching up with Eve and Aaron - if you can catch up with them.
Love from Cathy
John
2004 December 22 - Frida Goldstein in Oz
By Aaron Ninedek
Frida Goldstein (AKA Hedva Sheiner) arrived in Australia early November 2004 for a visit and left mid December. She impressed us all with her wonderful personality and was invited to many people's places and functions. These included Avraham Appel, Sam Offman, Eric Aufgang, Betty Levy and Halina Lewenberg.
She came to one of our famous breakfasts and was at the wedding of Betty Levy's daughter, Yael. Sight-seeing included Healesville to see and feed Australian wild life, Great Ocean Road, Southbank, Queensland and a tour of New Zealand.
Frida is fondly remembered by us all and we were delighted to meet with her again. At one Kinglake West camp we had the misfortune of having bad weather for most of the time. Yet it turned out to be one of the best camps we had partly because Frida was instrumental in organising singing and dancing and her infectious enthusiasm lifted all our spirits so we had a wonderful time.
2004 October - Noni Gordon and Eddie Price
A Sydney Visit by Noni Gordon (Ochert) in early October 2004 resulted in a 40 year reunion with (Dr.) Eddie Price. Reports Noni: Lots of nostalgia & chuckles.
2004 June 19 - Jack & Rosette Mirjam visit Oz
By Aaron Ninedek
Photos by Shoshanna Jordan
Rosette and Jack Mirjam are regular visitors to Australia and spend much of their time catching up with old friends. This year, Raymonde and Avraham Appel hosted a get-together where an enjoyable time was had by all. On occasions such as these, we often meet up with friends that we haven't seen for years. I was delighted to see Adam Fliegelman, Jack Katz, Raphy and Anne Star, Leora (nee Levine) and her husband Avraham as well as friends we see more frequently such as Louis De Vries, Eric and Rachel Aufgang, Betty and Moni Levy, Shoshanna Jordan and Sam Offman. Also present was Rifka Greiman whom I had not met before.
An email from Noni Gordon aptly illustrates the reconnections we are trying to make through this medium!
November 2003
Hi Harry:
I thought I'd tell you that yesterday I had one of those amazing coincidental nostalgic moments.
I went into a shop in Glenhuntly Road [Melbourne] and the owner is the widow of a Betari (David Feldman). Somehow we mentioned Betar and a woman who also came into the shop turned to me to ask if I had been in Betar.
Well after a brief explanation that I had been a chanicha , madricha, and mefakedet in Brisbane, this woman narrowed her eyes and asked if I was Noni Ochert of Brisbane!!!
She was Leah Feder, Shim's sister, who is here on what she says is her last visit to Australia to see the remnants of her family. Leah and I never met before but she knew all about me, and proceeded to ask me about all the old Betarim. She was really excited about our meeting.
How good is that when your old associations create happy reunions many (40) years later!
Cheers
Noni
Editor's note: We believe that the CD-ROM also had a hand in making Noni known to Leah.
2003 November - Noni Gordon Meets Leah Feder
In an email from Gabriela Garcia Calderon Orbe in Peru, a request has been made to contact a Deborah Cukierman (maiden name) who may be the daughter of the late David Cukierman - (see In Memoriam, Photo 30 in 1955 Photos and Photo 26 in 1956)
If you have any information about Deborah, please email Gabriela directly and let us know so we can announce it!
My name is Gabriela Garcia Calderon and I'm writing you from Lima, Peru.
I've got Aaron's e-mail at the web page. I really hope this doesn't disturb you nor Aaron, for that's not my intention at all. I'm writing you because I'm trying to locate a friend from my childhood. Her name is Deborah Cuckierman, and when we were kids lived in the same neighborhood on Lima. Her father's name was David Cuckierman, and as I found Mr. Cuckierman's name in your web page (after looking for his name at www.google.com), I wonder if it's the same person. I've seen the picture you've got there, and even though I was very young when the Cuckiermans moved, the man in the picture looked familiar to me.
The Deborah I'm looking for is about my age (I'm 35 years old). She had an older brother, Eli. Her mother's name was Eva Bitterman, but I'm not sure if I have the last name correctly spelled. Ms. Eva's mother's name was Rachel, or Raquel, in Spanish. I know Deborah's father died, in the early 80's.
The second reason for me to suppose you may know my friend Deborah's family is that somehow I remember that they went to live to Australia. But I'm not quite sure of that last information.
Please, if I'm right and the Cuckiermans you know are the same I'm looking for, let me know. And if possible, let me know how to contact Deborah. You may like to ask her first if she knows me, and in that case she can write me to my e-mail: gabriela.gco@gmail.com.
We lived in General Garzon Avenue, in Jesus Maria, Lima. My house had the address 1936 and hers was 1944. I had one older brother, Ernesto (everyone knew him as Tito) and one younger sister, Cristina. We had this wonderful neighbor, Dora, but we all called her Yoyo, who had one son, Fico, and one daughter, Leni. Yoyo had also two dogs, Polly and Paloma (Dove) and made really good cakes. Deborah's nickname was Cuqui. My friends know me as Gaby, and that's how I think Deborah used to refer to me. Sorry for any inconvenience I may have caused you.
Thanks a lot. All the best from Peru,
Gabriela Garcia Calderon Orbe
Connection made.- Case closed!

On the weekend of 27th - 28th June 2015, Peter Keeda (Cohen) and his wife Erica were visiting Melbourne from Sydney. A small group of old Betarim, whom Peter specified that he remembered, met for breakfast and had a great nostalgic time reminiscing.
Apart from Peter & Erica, there was John Goldlust, Peter Revelman, Evie Katz (Skall), Rafi & Vicki Lehrer (down from Canberra at that time) and Noni (Ochert) & Oded Gordon.

2017 Have we Changed?
"Back in 1968, Henry and I shared digs for a couple of years. I guess that's where the 'tradition' started and then continued back in Melbourne in 1979, Niagara Falls in 1993, Melbourne again in 1998, the Carribean in 2003 and one more time, Melbourne this year. All images are unretouched because Photoshop just didn't seem to work when I tried to do it." - Harry Stuart
