On December 31 1999 at 9 am EST in the US, Elaine and I called our Betar friends in Australia, where the time was 1 am DST on January 1, 2000 - the next century. The call was pre-arranged by John Goldlust who, with Cathy, was hosting a New Years party. Present and in the call were John, Henry Burstyner, Evie and Elliott Katz, Aaron Ninedek and Eve Tauber.
However, you may (or may not) have noticed an inherent contradiction in the video title, purposely made like in other YouTube videos, to garner interest. Whereas the title of the video suggests that January 1, 2000 was the start of the next century, that did not gel with the common thought that January 1, 2001 would be the beginning of the next millennium and thus, the next century. Well, every video contains some inaccuracies and I am just getting out ahead of the comments. I just consider this call to be illustrative of the theme of this site - "Still Friends after 70 Years".
The Aussies' conversation is a little weak due to the quality of the speaker phone but can be understood. Twenty minutes of me on the screen is payback for the limited exposure I have in the other videos.
